Why should we repair the conservation of clean
water and its sanitation?
Because humans need water to stay alive, it is
used at various times in our day to day. For example: when
showering, cooking, cleaning the house, among others.
This is how our meals mostly
need water to prepare, and in the event that this is not the case, we also need
it to maintain hygiene. And yes, this is of great importance due to the
fact that this water is drinkable.
What is the situation of the water service
today?
According to a Statista study which
expresses the percentage of the population with access to adequate drinking
water supply systems and facilities in Spain between 2000 and 2017, which have
100% drinking water service throughout the year.
This statistic shows that in
Spain the use of water is constant and its use has been maintained over the
years. However, UNESCO states that about 6
billion people in the world live in places with limited access to water.
This statista statistic shows us
which are the least fortunate countries in this scenario.
Even in this graph we can
see that India is the one with more than 111.89 million people in this
situation, which represents 25% of the population. While in Afghanistan,
approximately 15.57 million people suffer from water scarcity, with 93% of the
population of this country experiencing it.
Looking at these numbers
makes us see that hydraulic service is not total for other people. I even scarcity poses a danger for future
generations. In addition to this scenario, we must also
remember that human beings are not the only ones who
need water to survive, because animals and plants also require it . Therefore,
agricultural activity and livestock also depend on a correct water supply. Since
in shortages and drought the transport of food becomes a great problem.
Recognizing that we must
learn and apply measures to preserve water is the first step in ensuring its
prevalence, in addition to keeping it in suitable conditions for sanitation and
human consumption. Because yes, many gastrointestinal illnesses are caused
by the consumption of contaminated water. Where you not only run the risk
of illness and even death.
What projects or proposals exist for the
preservation and sanitation of water?
As we mentioned at the opening
of this article, this point is one of the Sustainable Development Goals. In
this case, SDG 6 has the
goal of making access to drinking water universal in an equitable way. Likewise,
guarantee the correct sanitation and level of hygiene so that consumption is
not harmful to anyone.
For this, they have managed to improve access to
drinking water in places that do not have the possibility of obtaining it. In
countries where there is a great drought or, failing that, they do not have
direct access to water. In this way, those countries that got used to
looking for water in remote places have received this support. Likewise, campaigns and workshops have
been carried out to offer sustainable water management methods. To
improve their situation and help these people to confront their situation.
¿ How to help or what to do
to preserve clean water and sanitation?
You may think that this task
is only for large entities and organizations that know the process for water
sanitation. However, as individuals, we can do small actions are examples to
contribute to this SDG:
1.
Take
short showers.
2.
Close
the taps well.
3.
Use
the washing machine with a full load.
4.
Use
buckets instead of a hose to wash the car.
5.
Recycle
rainwater to water your plants.
6.
Avoid
throwing garbage down the toilet.
As you will see, they are
very simple actions that we can apply at home and help preserve clean water
and sanitation.
And what should companies do?
For their part, companies having
a greater number of people in the same place and focusing on other activities
must apply other techniques. Below we explain which are the clean water
and sanitation techniques that
entities must apply:
1.
Make
staff aware of the responsible and sustainable use of water.
2.
Reduce
water pollution.
3.
Create
policies to reuse, recycle, and reduce water use.
4.
Improve
the use of water in workspaces.
5.
Create
workshops or attend third parties to explain the efficient use of water.
